The Year Ahead – October 21

In the January/February 2024 issue of Family Tree Magazine, they have introduced The Year Ahead, 366 genealogy tips will make 2024 your best research year yet by Lisa A Alzo. Lisa mapped out a day-by-day research plan.

October 21 – Visit (or re-visit) the Library of Congress www.loc.gov for historical maps, photographs, documents, newspapers and oral histories.

I find myself going to the same four on-line websites. We all need to get out of our comfort zones and explore other resources. Especially when we hit road blocks or just don’t seem to find much on our ancestor or relative. Instead of just saving more websites within your browser bookmark function, create a word or excel document for storing this information. Then you can add a brief description of what databases/information they have that you like. Perhaps the last day you visited that site. Then once a month, every other month, or every quarter, pick a day to visit your document and see what websites you have been under utilizing.
