October 22– What did your ancestors earn in today’s dollars? Let an inflation calculator https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm tell you.

After my father passed away in 2011, I came across some documents that included his last paystub in Dec 1989, the year he retired. First of all, I surprise how little the pay actually was, because he was a salaried person. I remember my sister thought my father made $100,000. And she wasn’t anywhere close to what he actually made.

He made $30,000 in 1989 and based on today’s standards, it still isn’t $100,000. It is only a little more than $75,000. I always thought of us as middle class, and I still do.
